Ex Advising Service for Review, Inspection, and Verification of Machine Using Flammable Substances

Once again, a request from the well-known (ceramic and tantalum) capacitors’ manufacturers, KYOCERA AVX Components (Bangkok) Ltd., for the Ex-advising service in the design review, inspection, and verification of the machine using flammable substances in its process.

During the last 3 months, our ATEX/IECEx Expert has been requested to advise on reviewing the technical data and documentation of the machine design, and to support the machine owner for inspection and verification of the methanol washing machine (standalone) in compliance with the applicable EN/IEC standards for explosive atmospheres and explosion protection.

The machine was designed and built by a maker in the Czech Republic and shipped for installation and operation at KAVX in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Even though this machine was not intended to submit ExNB/CB for certification according to the ATEX Directive or IECEx System, the machine design and assembly are considered to follow the relevant international standards for explosive atmospheres IEC/EN 60079 series, ISO/IEC 80079 series, and other standards for machine safety.  The technical documentation review covered the hazardous area classification of flammable substances used in its process, the selection and installation of relevant ATEX/IECEx equipment and components for electrical parts to meet the Category/EPL (zoning), the ignition risk assessment of non-electrical components, as well as the safety devices, and the necessary tests and verification of the artificial ventilation system as required by the referenced applicable standards.
