Ex-advising for Review, Inspection, and Test of Machines Using Flammable Substance

One of our services for Ex-advising is relevant to machines that use a flammable substance (methanol) in their processes. In June 2023, our ATEX/IECEx Expert was requested to visit KYOCERA AVX in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand to advise on the inspection of machines used in the production lines of methanol washing and chemical polymerization of the Tantalum process. These machines have been made in Japan and shipped to assembly at the plant which they were scheduled to operate at the end of 2023.  Then a project service in 6 months was started.

Even though these machines are not intended to be certified by ATEX Directive or IECEx scheme, our Ex expert has reviewed the machine design concerning the relevant international standards IEC 60079-10-1, IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-13, ISO 80079-36, ISO 80079-37, and IEC 60079-14.  The documents review and equipment inspection covered the hazardous area classification for the flammable substance used, relevant equipment and components both for electrical and non-electrical equipment. The ATEX/IECEx certified electrical equipment was recommended to use and the ignition risk assessment for non-electrical parts was advised to provide as well as the safety devices, and finally, the tests of the artificial ventilation system which was applied to the machines were done successfully.
